[Hammarlund] SA-3 Panadapter

 Hello, I have a question for the list I have a old navy Panadapter model SA-3 (50kc) that I have paired with a Hammurland HQ-170A. When I am tuning around say on 75 meters and zero in on a station how far should I be able to see on either side of center. Say I am listening on 3920 kHz and the Panadaper is set for a sweep of 1 which I think equates to 5kc per division on the screen then I should be able to measure 25 kc +/- of center correct ? It seems the receivers drops off after 10 or 15 kc and I am wondering if this is inherent to the receiver IF. If I turn up the Panadapers gain I can see further either side of center but this raises what I would call the noise floor in the center of the screen.
