I wouldnt keep running that without a recap or you may wind up frying the
power and audio transformers and chokes. Dont forget the ones under the BFO
shield. Also check all resistors for tolerance.
Yours is an early model; later the panel was all white and the factory would
include the calibrator if requested when it was in for service. In the late
50's I had a very late production version that was built with the calibrator
as in the HQ-140.
Normally the hottest tube is in the RF stage but after the radio is
overhauled I suggest trying a 6SG7 in there and put the good 6SS7 in the 1st
IF. A 6SG7 woke the set up for me on 10 and 15M back then as well as the two
I have now.
The alignment section is poorly written but SAM's has a much better
explanation, and schematic. The WW2 Super Pro manual is excellent for the IF
and filter alignment procedure as is the HQ-120X manual.
