[Hammarlund] Favorite Hammarlund Radio

Hi,

Once upon a time I had a HQ-145X. The X indicated a crystal socket that
will allow the user to have xtal control in place of the VFO
(switchable). Mine initially had untenable drift but the very first 6C4
I subbed took care of that. Out of curiosity I subbed in several more
and all of them worked well. I trashed the one that came with the
receiver. The 145 is general coverage with bandspread for several of the
ham bands (for those who didn't already know that). Although I never
used it crystal controlled (no appropriate crystals) a ten minute warmup
allowed me to reset for my traffic nets including Navy-Marine Corps MARS
nets (SSB). My station was already on the NCS station when the nets
started. Analog dials CAN do the job. I let it go a long time ago - I
might look for another or one of the other Hammarlunds some of these
days. For $50 I would take the one the original poster found.

Some other radios were mentioned along the way. I just happen to have a
RAK here and I have no intention of ever letting *THAT* radio go.
Eventually somebody can pry it from my cold, dead fingers! I have been
watching for a RAL to go with it at ham fests in my area.

73,

Bill KU8H
