Bob, I have an HP 8601 but it is difficult to tune so I use a
Function-audio-generator with a sweep function made by OR-X. I believe
it was made in Israel but am not sure. I don't even have a manual but
managed to get it to sweep the way I needed.
It has the sawtooth wave out to sync the scope and weighs much less than
the HP. You may see something like the OR-X at a larger hamfest or
something by other manufacturers and they probably will be much cheaper
because it doesn't have the HP logo attached. This one is completely
digital and very stable where as the HP is mechanical. It tunes from
literally 0 Cy to 10 Meg and has variable sweep out to any width you
wish to set. Much better to operate for me.
