[Hammarlund] Hammarlund chokes in SP-600

Hi Bob,
The SP-600 s-mtrs are not very active. But, before you go digging
too far, operate the meter switch a dozen or 3 times, quickly. It's a
hi-impedance ckt, and switch contacts don't clean themselves very well.
(and/or shoot some DeOxit into it) The rectifier is only in it's ckt for
the audio measurement. The AVC/MAN switch is similar, can develop
resistance across it's contacts..
Leaky p.s. chokes will usually blow fuses, like's been said, it
doesn't happen very often, I think I've seen it in 2 SP-600's that have
come thru here, and that's over maybe 3 dozen. Maybe that is often, I
dunno, but they usually come thru hr cuz they need help, not cuz they're
in FB shape.
If you, or anybody, want a good account of what's involved in
totally recapping an S-600, there's a good article written by Ray Vasek,
W2EC, in the svc secn of the Hammarlund Historian website.
<http://www.hammarlund.info/SP600svc.htm> We're getting that site back
together slowly.
