How do folks dispose of the oil/ uckity stuff ?

I've followed Al's suggestions with great results, and would defer to 
his judgment, but here's one slight deviation that worked for me.  Once 
you unsolder the bottom of the bathtub cans and removed the leaky 
uckumpucky innards and install new caps, there's no real reason to 
solder the darned lids back on.  The appearance is the same and the cans 
make for convenient mounting points to use the existing wiring.   Modern 
caps are so much smaller there's no problem fitting them inside.
