Modern 1st RF, Pullen Mixer, product detector, multi mode AGC. This can be 
tubes, or a mix with some SS.

An 8 Pole xtal filter in IF to sharpen skirts when needed, Diode switched 
and selectable for different modes if desired. Do away with the original 
xtal filter and replace with a T Notch.

Maybe a Lamb style noise blanker as used in the HQ-180 option or SX-28.

Slightly modify the audio to replace the 6F6's with 6V6's to reduce current, 
improve efficiency, and deliver even better audio. This was done in the 
SP-400.

And above all either stabilize the LO or go to SS. I gave up on my BC 
versions ages ago but recently picked up a $25 SP-400 so its a back burner 
project.
