[Hammarlund] Re 600ohms audio output

Use a filament transformer. The 120 VAC primary is wired to the 600 ohm source and the low voltage is used for the speaker connection. Radio Shack has filament transformers with a 12.6 VAC center tapped secondary. Using half of the secondary works very well with 3.2 ohm speakers and using the entire 12.6 volt winding works very well with 8 ohm speakers. However, using either a 6.3 volt or 12.6 volt secondary without a center tap will work as well. The impedance "matching" is not that critical.

Frankly, 99.99% of the population cannot tell the difference in audio quality between a "real" audio transformer and a filament transformer.
