Thanks for all the excellent info and suggestions. I have a question about the proper application. Roy Morgan's info suggested not to use the three cap method..and Carl suggested using the three cap method. From a relative novice understanding, it would appear that the three cap method would be best and with this method, the polarity of the plug would make no difference. As I understand it, the modern safety caps are designed to open on failure, so the three cap method would still be a safe application. In my situation, I have good earth gnds on the gear, don't use any adapters and all outlets are three wire and correctly polarized. However, I do need to go thru my mess and put in some polarized pwr cords...preferably the two wire types.
As I understand the JustRadio info, the X1/Y2 type may be used for both across-the-line and line-to-ground. Sounds simple enough...one type for both applications. Now, in the case of the HQ-150...it uses .01 uf line-to-gnd caps. How about the across-the-line value...should it also be a .01 uf. It looks like a 250vac rating would be sufficient.
To Al: tnx for the offer on the orig. parts but after sifting thru this info, I might as well join the modern generation so will probably use some from JustRadio....tnx Al.
I don't recall ever having a BA rig that blew these caps, but doesn't take but one time to hit the ole wallet hard...tnx again for all the help.
