I've taken on the restoration of this gem, and am in need of some parts . .
.
So far, I'm rebuilding the RA-84 power supply with electrolytics (the
original paper caps are gone), and replacing the old wiring with new plastic
insulated wire and fuses for the B+ lines, and of course the obligatory 3
wire line cord. This restoration is limited to front panel cosmetics, and a
working receiver. The previous owner had added a couple large 10 mfd @1kv
paper caps, mounting them to the front panel . . . YEEEEECH!!! And put a
pair of filter chokes in on the bias supply.
I'm planning to use perf board, and Sprague TVA electrolytics, 10 mfd or so
@450v, if the unloaded B+ is about that. Should I go 500 or more?
I have only two of the original small knobs, and depending on price, would
like to make a complete set.
I also need two of the SPST rotary switches (Limiter off/on),
(send/receive). ISTR Switchcraft made some that looked like their toggle
switch bodies with a shaft out the side, and a half/moon bulge on one side.
I'd like to find a proper name tag for the front panel, BC1004, made by
Wilson. The power supply still has its label, and it is made by Wilson.
Any good ideas on a cover over the power supply connections/fanning strip?
I was thinking something like 1/2 of PVC pipe, or equivalent. I want to
make this safe enough for anyone to be sticking their fingers in things and
not getting kicked across the room . . IYKWIM.
Other than a paint job after filling in extraneous holes in the panel, it
looks like there hasn't been any other hacks applied. It's a shame to see
something this well built hacked by schlock repairs, and wiring with
friction tape . . . !?!?!?!?!? I can fix that . . . Add to it a nice
speaker and box from a car stereo shop, and matching transformer, and I
should be in business.
Thanks for your time and help . . .
