the socket you refer to on the back of the radio is for a muting function. There may be a jumper across it internally, which allows the receiver to function. If you take that jumper off and connect relay contacts across it using the socket, you can put the receiver into standby when going to transmit and opening the relay contacts connected to it. When in receive mode, the relay contacts should be closed to short across the terminals the socket is connected to so it will receive.
