I have had several of these go by and I have one in the shop right now. 
There is abundant evidence that they are after-market changes. If you look 
closely (like with 40x magnifiers), you will see that bits of the original 
grey paint or primer are still there, stuck in the corners, and that the 
surface has been sanded or hit with steel-wool or something. I generally 
polish them then repaint them the original colors. The exact models are all 
over the map - it is not one specific model or year.

Note that without some kind of primer or clearcoat, the alluminum will 
gradually turn to white powder. The ones I have seen are bare alluminum - no 
clearcoat, no clear primer. I have had to trash several (painted!) panels 
due to oxidation of the alluminum. Pity.
