[Hammarlund] shiny Hammarlund SP 600 JX-26/R-483/FRR

Hello,

from an older gentleman I yesterday picked up a R-483/FRR which is a SP 
600 model JX-26 in a desktop cabinet. Unfortunately the tag on front 
panel is missing, although the receiver itself has a sn #12680 tag.

What bothers me is that the front panel is shiny metal not usual gray 
paint. The panel is engraved and even the bezels around the two scales 
are shiny metal. I never saw one before, is this real?

I got the TM 11-851 manual with the receiver. The receiver needs a good 
cleaning but is working. The controls are very scratchy.
The gentleman used it to monitor foreign radio stations. He sold it 
because he switched to Internet radio instead. I guess he was at least 
75 years old. Amazing.
