[Hammarlund] HQ-129

Joe,

The 6H6 sounds like it has been replaced with a couple of diodes, the
6H6 is a duo diode tube and the two things that look like resistors are
probably just some little solid state replacements for it. You can
leave them in place if you wish and they should be fine.

It sounds like perhaps the BFO has been replaced with a crystal
controlled unit and perhaps this is a product detector mod. You will
have to go inside the box to find out for sure what has been done.
Since the HQ-129 is already set up to use a crystal filter I would doubt
that this box is the filter but when someone modifies a receiver
anything is possible.

I have seen Argonne caps before but I have no idea how old they are;
you could test a few to see if they are leaking.

The HQ-129 is a very capable receiver.
