Rick,

I discovered recently that the HQ-170A has a thing to confuse you.

There are two 330 mH chokes that are located near the rear chassis
apron to the rear of he side band and selectivity switches. One is
the 330 mH choke L5 mounted on T11 and going to Pin 3 on the 6BV8 last
IF amp triode. That T11 pin is being used as a tie point. Only two
pins on T11 are actual coil connections.. the one the choke is mounted
to is not a connection to the coil. The choke markings are faint
indeed in my radio, and nearly un-detectable in one other radio I know
of. Do not be led astray.

The HQ-170A I have here has all ceramic caps in it, and just a couple
modern-looking mylar types, along with the many silver micas. So
don't order all new bypass caps from the parts list before you upend
your radio to see what you have.

My radio has a two wire line cord, and .01 1400 volt disk ceramics
from both lines to chassis. Do replace your line cord with a three
wire grounded cord, put one cap from line to neutral and one from
neutral to chassis. (Use X and Y rated caps if you want to do it
really right.)

I think I'll hoist mine up onto the bench and fire it up to see how it
runs.

Roy
