Hi All,
The response from those of you having a Popular Electronics SW call and
certificate, or having had one - lost the certificate - can not remember the
call, has given my electronic mailbox a hernia! Fantastic! Hence, we are
going to make a serious effort to build a call sign database to assist those
who do not recall their call to hopefully rediscover it. We are also going
to reproduce the original certificate and make it available to those who
would like one.
Here is what those of you who are interested can do to help me.
Send me an e-mail with your first and last name, Ham call (if you have one),
your Popular Electronics SW call sign, city/state, country if other then the
USA, date your certificate was issued, who signed it and if it came with
your SW call sign printed/typed on the certificate or if you had to write it
in yourself.
Your e-mail address would also prove helpful.
If you have any stories to relate, 'please' send them to me in a different
e-mail! Thank you.
Be assured, that none of this information will be sold, given, swapped or in
any other way released or transfered to anyone else! It will 'not' be put on
the Internet in a web site etc. It will be used only to help me locate lost
calls, cross reference certificate styles etc. Frogzilla will be keeping a
watchful bloodshot eyeball on the file cabinet. Should he try to swamp the
files, perhaps I can get Scottie to beam the amphibian directly into that
immense aquarium tank in California where they had that Whale housed in Star
Trek #4!
Once I have the database put together, I will send all interested parties an
electronic mail update every four to six weeks to keep them appraised of the
progress. This is one "HUGE" undertaking guys, so it is going to take a
little time to make it happen!
If any of you have graphic design talents, we could certainly use some
assistance in the several certificate designs! Especially the Master design
that will print the SW call sign on the certificate. The fields you wrote in
by hand originally will still require you to utilize a pencil or ball point
pen!
Send a "fresh" e-mail to: dfischer at usol.com
Please put: "SW Call Sign Data" in the subject field. Thanks!
