Put my SP-600 back on the bench here with the thought of digging in and replacing the audio tranny which has gone south. Presently i've got the output from the 6V6 going into a Collins Audio transformer with the same impedances, well close anyway. Not quite as much power handling capability but it sure sounds good, again! Enjoy that tuning and the great SW audio out of it. Man, what a receiver.

Anyway to address the reason for the posting, i'm not using the 600 ohm winding of the tranny. Do i need to put a 600 ohm resistor across it anyway? Seems like that was mentioned somewhere but i can't recall where. Originally i think it was for protection of the audio transformer. Apparently the Collins audio units are more reliable even though they won't handle the full output. But who cares, i'll never use it at full output anyway, i don't think? Well they say to never say never. I said that before and ended up doing just what i said i would never do. Should have "knocked on wood", well i did, my head but that must not count.

Tell me about this.
