[Hammarlund] Looking at a Super Pro Band Switch

Yep, I just did that.  You have to undo lots of screws, but the center  cover 
is the access to the bandswitch in your BC-779.  There are both  vertical and 
horizontal screws to remove.  You'll find that the bandswitch  is a series of 
phenolic cards driven by a cam- the cards move up and down and  short 
contacts built into the tuning unit.  I sprayed all with deOxit. The  two side covers 
access the two tuning capacitors.  I found it wasn't too  bad to pull the 
entire tuning unit out, clean all the contacts, replace all the  bypass caps, etc
.  Just be careful disconnecting the sheet metal screws  which hold the lights 
and the spring for the bandswitch- if that goes flying  across the workshop 
you'll have a tough time replacing it. I spent a lot of time  refurbishing my 
BC-779, but am very happy with the results.
