[Hammarlund] SP-600-JX-17 BFO WAVEFORM

Good Morning List,

I am working on the old SP-600. In the cw position the cw has a raspy
sound to it. The non BFO functions work fine.

So I have spent my time with the bfo circuit. With the radio on, and the
buffer between the bfo and the i.f. injection point , (6BA6), removed I
have a oscillator wave form that looks more like an i.f. bandpass
waveform. I feel it's this distorted wave form from the bfo oscillator
that is causing the raspy sound when it is injected into the detector.
The oscillator is strong and steady, the voltages and resistance checks
are reasonable but the waveform sucks. Does this Hartley type
oscillator produce a clean ac waveform?, I always thought so. I suspect
the silver micas inside the bfo can, but what a job to remove the can to
check the caps.
