" I am working on an HQ-120. The 6V6 tube socket is arcing between pins
2&3. Even does it with tube removed from socket. So looks like I will have
to replace the socket, which is secured by rivets. Any suggestions ? Should
I try to punch the rivets out ? Or drill them out ? I have been fooling with
this stuff for 50 years. Hard to believe I have never had to deal with
replacing a riveted socket before. Hi. "
I have had to drill out rivets in electronics before and I have found
that a useful trick is to have a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool running
with the tool immediately below where you are drilling and as close to the
rivet as you can get it. Most of the chips will be immediately sucked into
the vacuum instead of lodging in inconvenient places in the radio.
Sometime this means getting a helper to hold the crevice tool where it needs
to be while you drill, but keeping the chips from causing potential shorts
is well worth the trouble.
Just my $.02 worth.
