[Hammarlund] Re: D-104 cartridge

Heil includes the XT1 low to hi z transformer with the DC-104 kit. Been  
using it with my Drake T-4X / R-4C for over a month now. The original  
D-104 had an amp at one time, which I junked. The only difference I  
found is that I have to run the microphone gain up to 12 0'clock on the  
panel.  It was at 11 o'clock with the crystal element of the original  
D-104. Heil's is dynamic and requires a little more gain. Been getting  
great reports. Had I seen Glenn's I would have used his.  He's cheaper.

This is a lot more $ than a crystal element, but makes a defunct D-104  
into a great, but low Z, dynamic mic. To use it with boat anchor gear,  
you will need to get his XT-1 transformer or build a simple preamp.

I have been using an Heil HC-5 element in an old Astatic 10 DA case  
with G-stand as my main mic for years and it has worked great! I prefer  
it to most of the newer designs.
