[Hammarlund] Hammarlund Hq 128 troubleshooting

Hi Thomas,

As I recall, the Hammarlund 129X uses different capacitor sections to
provide proper L/C ratios on the various ranges. Any chance that the
rotor has shifted within the stator on the main or bandspread tuning
capacitor causing a section to be shorted? Typically you would get some
crackling noise as you tune the control. Try opening both the main and
bandspread capacitors to their full open position as even if the spacing
is off they should not short in that position.

Also, see if your conversion oscillator/mixer is running. You can use a
general coverage receiver with an antenna lead near the converter tube
(6K8) in the 129. The HQ-129 has a 455 KC IF as I recall so you should
find the conversion signal about 455 kilocycles (hertz) above the marked
frequency of the dial. This also is a handy way to do the calibration
alignment on the receiver and helps avoid wrong side tracking with a
badly misaligned receiver.

Good luck,
