One simple way is to cut a piece of thin steel, galvanized sheet, etc and
drill the holes in that. Dont use aluminum or copper.
Align and then replace the unbutchered bottom plate.
When I worked at a service shop in the 60's there were drilled plates on
hand for a number of receivers.
