exact replacement multisection NOS cans are turning into Unobtainium, use a
3 section HV and an under chassis LV 20 at 25v axial
or gut the old can and put new single radials inside, probably can get the 3
HV inside the old can

Subject: [Hammarlund] Electrolytics for two HQ 129X
Am recaqpping two HQ 129X receivers and need the four
section celectrolytics for them. They are triple 10
mfd @ 450 wv and one section at 20 mfd @ 25 wv.
Does anyone know a source for these caps? Exact
capacitance doesn't seem to be necessary. Working
voltage of 450 seems high, but that is what the parts
list calls for. I guess in 1948, the insulation wasn't
as precisely made and the tolerances weren't as close
so they felt that if thyey shot for 450 working vdc
that there should be enough of a safety margin.
I just recapped one of them except for the
electrolytics and guess what, I fired it up and the
foursection electrolytic began its' bubbling act.
Thanks and 73, John, K5PGW
