I still think they were made that way. I've seen a few various radios that had orange coloured  plastict jackets stuffed over the lamps to give a heued glow. That may not be factory. In any case, on the HQ-129x, that's all I've ever seen. The warm light orange glow from that zero to ten meter. I find it pleasing to the eye and I like it. In AVC setting, a very fast meter too, is in't! 73's, Mike
