Rick,

(Virtually rapping you on head with KNUCKLES!)

Now take a look at the FREQUENCIES in the turret assembly.

Are they OVER 1Mc?

If they are, I don't have my manual and schematic(s) open or right at
hand, do NOT use "orange drops" or the same polystyrene film type of cap!

Remember James A. (Andy) Moorer's posting! Here it is again:

Ceramics for the RF deck for bypass.
If you have to replace a mica, use a modern dipped mica for stability.

You shouldn't use the Orange Drops anywhere the frequency is over 1
MHz or so. They have more inductance than, say, the ceramics. I
measured the self-resonance of a .01 uF Orange Drop as 1.5 MHz,
which means it is not acting like a capacitor any more at that
    frequency and above.

    James A. (Andy) Moorer

Now I know that we ALL age and get forgetful. Rick you are in an area
that YOU do not want to mess up! The turret assembly is the SECOND
worst working space in the entire radio. The only WORSE working area is
the IF cans. Both have limited space, both have lead length issues, and
NEITHER is easy in an assembled radio. Do you level best to use ceramic
or mica. They DON'T have to be the BEST quality.

The objective is to end up with a completely functioning radio that WILL
align on frequency within the adjustable components range.

You don't need to make it worse, but you also don't need to make it last
for 60 years.
