Ah! I had misread his setup. I thought the 1ms sweep rate was the
horizontal sweep rate of the scope, while he was setting his sweep
generator to a very slow rate.
You're right, of course, and I was wrong. Ya gotta keep that sweep
generator moving SLOOOOWLY so the IF stage doesn't ring and give
you false indications.

I use a cheap B&K sweep generator, and it works like a charm. I have
seen them for sale on eBay for around $50.00.
