[Hammarlund] HQ-170 vs. HQ-170A - Differences?

Hi Roy,

I acquired an HQ-170AC VHF last year (it's an HQ-170A with clock and 6
meter converter included). It's a very nice set and was a very easy and
quick rebuild. The chassis has a nice, open layout with no tricky
corners or unduly buried components.

Hammarlund built it as a communications receiver so the audio's
restricted and can't be opened up much in the stock configuration. It
drifts a little bit when compared with my Collins 75S-3 and dial
calibration isn't as precise. On the other hand, the greater
selectivity choices and addition of the 160 and 6 meter bands make it
nicer in those respects. I'm very fond of my HQ-170AC VHF. You'll like
yours, too, and -- best of all -- you can get it back to factory specs
in just a weekend or two. It's a triple conversion set, though, so
you'll need a signal generator that goes down to 60 KHz for the alignment.
