I think this is an excellent post, Pete. In fact, in my opinion it is
one that should be sent out periodically as a reminder. We do seem to
have a tradition here of flogging the proverbial dead horse, quite
often brought on by new members asking the same questions some of us
asked months or even years ago. Folks get annoyed, threaten to leave
and so on. So, along with the occasional reminders about list rules,
how to send in funds to support the lists and so on, this message
would go a long way to helping folks find the info they need more
easily.

I know it may sound easy to most when someone suggests searching the
archives, but it can be easier said than done until
one has actually utilized the feature a few times. Took me a while to
figure it out, but I'm a bit dense at times anyhow.
