[Hammarlund] Authentic, deluxe SSB adapter for your SP-600 or R-390

From time to time, someone will comment about the SP-600's (or R-390's)
lack of a product detector -- thus making the reception of SSB signals a
challenging exercise in patience and manual dexterity -- and lament the
scarcity and expense of such remedies as the TMC and Hammarlund sideband
adapters.

Modern substitutes for these rare devices are available, of course, and
many circuits have been published to accomplish SSB reception with
varying degrees of success. But what if you're a purist and wish to
replicate a ca. 1950's sideband adapter? And what if you want it to be
a high-end device with the versatility and performance of, say, the
formidable TMC CV-491A?

Well...for the truly ambitious -- or masochistic -- homebrew addict with
a broadband connection, I've posted complete construction details for a
high-performance SSB receiving adapter on my website. It's an 8-page
article from the November-December 1948 issue of GE Ham News., and it's
a beaut! Go to www.aerialacts.com/SSB_adapt.pdf and then go get a cup
of coffee -- or supper.

I scanned the article in high resolution, full-size PDF format in case
anyone actually wants to build this thing. Therefore, the file size is
huge -- almost 30 MB. For those who don't wish to download this massive
piece, I'll be happy to print it out for you. Just send me a large,
self-addressed, stamped envelope and I'll get it to you. I'm "good" on
QRZ.COM or you can find my address on the contact page of
www.aerialacts.com.
