Andy,

Yes.  I think the meter looks good.  It may not be perfect but is much 
better than none.

I have the original meter but the coil is open.  I may be able to "mix and 
match" parts with
the replacement meter.  I will need the new dial scale because of the 
difference in the
mounting holes.  If you could post it it would be helpful.

I am going to order the meter and I will let you know how it turns out.

Folks, I managed to find a meter that can replace the original meter for the
SP-600. It doesn't look quite the same. Here are some pix:

It is nearly impossible to find one with the thin flange that the original
had. This one has the thinnest flange I could find. It is from a meter from
Surplus Sales of Nebraska (http://www.surplussales.com/index.html). It is
their MTR-46241-L1. I put an overlay on the dial so that it looks just like
the original. It has a 500 ua movement instead of the 200 ua movement the
original meter had, so it is not quite as sensitive. To make it work just
like the original, you really should replace R65 with, say, a 12K resistor
(instead of the 22K). That has the side effect of knocking down the audio
gain a bit, but my impression is that audio gain is not the real problem in
the SP-600.

The meter goes for $35. I will post the overlay file if anyone is
interested.

So, whadya think? Would you use a meter that looks like this on your SP-600?
