I finished recapping the SP-600. Also checking resistors as I go along. I
did find some mica caps that were out of tolerance and replaced those. I
replaced every cap and resistor in the RF section. Don't wont to have to
tear it down again for awhile. Replaced a few broken shaft couplings and a
missing shaft. Brought it up slowly and monitored AC current draw. Recorded
1.2 amps for future reference, after warm up. Needs a realignment and I
noticed a problem in the AVC circuit. RF gain has no or little affect. Looks
like I will be diving into the 6AL5 (V-14) this morning to see whets going
on. Manual position is OK. Tossed an antenna on the connector and tuned
round 3.8 to 3.9 mc. Low and behold, a few AM stations coming in loud and
clear. This is the first time this receiver has heard anything for 49 years.
I even went up to the FM band and I'll be dammed, received a few signals up
there as well. Just thought I would let you folks how the progress is coming
along. By the way, with the new panel done and relettered, it looks
fantastic. Pictures available on request.
Regards,
