Hi guys. We had a lot of discussion about this here on the list I think
about a year or so ago. Lasted several days.No viable solutions presented at
that time. I' still wondering about mods. Anyway, my only complaint is that
my HQ180's audio has nearly no high end audio response. Has too much much
bass and AM signals sound muffled...not bad but not great. On SSB it's
great. On the other hand, My HQ110C ( the Telechron is original and still
works) is truly high fidelity on AM. Better than any other com rig I've
heard. My Hallicrafters SX-110 is better audio-wise. My little Knight-Kit
Staroamer sounds great too. But I'm doing something most folks don't do. I
hear these receivers through my hi-fi system. (Crown IC150 pre-amp, Denon
power amp, Altec 891A speakers...(!2 inch woofers), Denon headphones). So
Dallas has a HQ180 that sounds to tinny and I have one that has no highs.
I'd like to know what you guys are using to listen to your Hammarlunds. I
thought about taking the audio off the input to the detector, but the IF
strip is what determines the audio slope. So perhaps some kind of mod in the
IF to widen the audio response? With the ability to narrow the bandwithd
when needed? My HQ-180 has the slot depth and slot frenquency controls. I
look forward to to your thoughts. 73's, Mike
