Hello All,

Please excuse me if some of these questions
have been posed before, I am new to BA restoration.

I just acquired a couple Hammarlund receivers.
A fairly clean HQ-120 and a somewhat rough
SP-600. I have not started digging into them
to see what problems they have -
(I was told that the 600 is nonfunctional and the
120 has not been plugged in for 20 years. It is believed
to be non-functional or only partially functional as well.)

I am planning on working on the HQ-120 first, obviously it is considerably simpler...

Anyway, a few quick questions.

In regards to the HQ-120:

How does one determine if a rig is a 120 or a 120X?

Does anyone know the common part number for the 6.8V pilot lamps in the 120?

The cabinet could use a through cleaning and possibly a
light overspray, it is the gray version. Is there a common paint
that is a match for this color?

Since this radio has not been turned on for so many years,
is it advisable to bring it up slowly with a variac?

Is there a standard set of components (paper caps) that is normally
replaced in this radio?

This rig as the original two prong plug, my first thought is to replace it
with a 3 prong before I do anything else (and save the original), good idea?

I am planning on pulling the rig out of the cabinet, testing the tubes and
then giving the chassis a through cleaning with simple green and distilled
water. Then giving it a go with the variac. Anything else I should consider
before I power it up?

The SP-600 looks like it is all there except for the top cover (it is one
of the rack mount versions) I have access to a fair machine shop and
could most likely make one of them. Would a drawing of that cover be
available anywhere?

Thanks!

73,

Paul W4QG
