Hi Don, I had the same problem with my HQ-180 about two years ago. I removed
the can and soaked it in a WD40 bath for a few hours. Freed up the slug some
but not enough. I managed to break up the slug and get it out. I then tried
slugs from some junk radios to no avail. They threaded in and out ok but
were either too long or short to resonate properly. I then got on this list
and got a reply from a guy who owned a radio restoration business in Maine.
He had the exact replacement transformer from a junk HQ-180 and I bought it.
I think it cost me about 15 bucks. I can't remember his name. Maybe somone
else knows who I'm referring to. You might look in the list archive and get
the info there. There's other stuff in the list archive dealing with this.
Just takes a long time to sift through it all. Good luck. 73's, Mike
