[Hammarlund] Hammarlund HQ-170A questions

Hiya fellas --

Well, I've just about finished my HQ-170A VHF rebuild. I've cleaned it, repainted the cabinet, rebuilt the power supply section, replaced electrolytics, paper caps and some out-of-spec resistors, and even replaced the clock's guts with some NOS Telechron components I found.

I've got two questions:

1) Does anyone have a spare "VHF" tag -- the one that's affixed over the S-meter? A previous owner removed his and left a nasty bare patch on my front panel.

2) What are the normal AVC attack and decay times? My AVC is extremely and abnormally sensitive to pops, mike clicks, etc. and slams the S-meter against the stop. And, the difference in decay times among fast, medium and slow is minimal (of course, my Collins 75S-3 had the same characteristic before I modified it). How can I smooth out the AVC action -- or is this "just the way it is"?

All in all, I am very fond of my "new" Hammarlund. It's gonna be a keeper.

73,

Craig
