Seriously, guys, many thanks for the helpful hints and tips (and even
pictures) regarding my hum problem and transformer retrofitting project.

In the end, it was 120 cycle hum (thanks for asking again, Al) and -- and as
was pointed out, that's means power supply ripple.  An extra 40 uf 'lytic in
parallel with the cap from the diodes solved the problem.  That's an area of
the power supply that had been modified by a previous owner.  I had replaced
the original four-section electrolytic with new, individual caps (two the
sections were already bad), but -- as Mike suggested -- I guess I needed
more MFDs.

Now -- I need a Hammarlund transmitter.  Hmmmmmm.
