[Hammarlund] HQ180 date?

I have a mil. surplus HQ180 that I always thought was a "AX". In the 
archives I read how to determine the date by the 3083 xtal on the bottom of 
the rig. Mine is dated 9-64. Is this a little early for an "AX"?
