Hi Ron,

Well, that's a relief, I was expecting to have to find a new meter at some
point! It really does hit the stop hard.

Thanks for the fast response!

Roger, G3VKM

Roger:

Every Hammarlund I have ever owned behaves this way. I believe it is normal
operation, and have never know it to burn out a meter.

Subject: [Hammarlund] HQ-170A S meter problem

Hi All,

I have an HQ-170A-VHF receiver which is in good shape and works well. There
is one problem with it; every time I switch on from cold the S meter whacks
over to full scale and stays there for several seconds until the set has
warmed up. I'm concerned this may lead to damage to the meter in the long
term. Is this a common problem/design fault or can anyone suggest a possible

cause? I have checked the S meter zero setting and on-air meter readings
seem credible, I use the RX mostly on AM.

Any advice appreciated!
