I just purchased a nice HQ-129-X at a hamfest last week, to satisfy my =
curiousity about them. I checked & replaced tubes as necessary. I'm =
impressed with this fine old receiver, and now I know why you 129X =
owners say the nice things you do about them. The audio is great, and =
the performance is very good. I have a question, though. Last =
evening, many signals on 75 Meters were unusually strong. I noticed =
that the audio began to distort, and it was necessary for me to back off =
the RF Gain a bit, to clear it up (on AM reception). I switched over =
the the MW band, and no such occurrence, even on the strongest signal =
that I could find (but they were still only about mid-meter-scale =
signals, compared to the needle-pinners on 75m. I switched out the 6H6 =
(AVC) with another one, but no difference. Is this typical of the =
129X's, or could anyone offer some comments on this?

Thanks,
Gary W3OG
