[Hammarlund] Hq 129 X done, now on to the '140!

Well after replacing a fist full of paper and wax caps, several =
electrolytics and an open resistor in the BFO can, and spending a great =
deal of time with Deoxit and cue tips my HQ 129 sounds great! Doesn't =
look too bad either. Now on to my HQ 140. The problem with the '140 is =
that it is a much cleaner radio to begin with but not as lively. I've =
mentioned the problem with the send/receive switch before and I still =
haven't gotten to the bottom of that. This radio has VERY few wax and =
paper caps to replace. It has a bazillion blue ceramic .022 disp caps =
and lots of silver micas. I know this is a stupid beginner question, but =
is there a way to check these without removing them from the circuit? =
I've been told that they are unlikely to go bad. The main problem with =
this radio seems to be a rather touchy BFO making it much trickier to =
tune in SSB than on the HQ129 and making CW signals sound a little =
watery. Is this an alignment issue? All resistors are within spec, I've =
replaced the few paper, wax and electrolytics except for the filter cap =
can. Any ideas? Thanks.
