Hi Al et al.
I replaced C-97 with that 68pF 5% 1KV silver mica I had. Works GREAT! It
tuned up right in the middle of the tuning range of the coil.
I found I was able to replace that capacitor without removing the
transformer by doing it the following way. Remove can cover (duh), remove
tubes behind the can (0A2, 6V6, 6AL5 etc). With small a mirror and a small
set of curved seizers grasp the capacitor and gently turn it back and forth
on it's axis till the leads break. Install new capacitor by feeding it's
leads through the terminal lug holes that the transformer wires go through
and solder it in place. Replace cover and tubes. Voila, job is done.

> hi phil,
> Yes, C-97 is 65uuf, 500vdc, +-2%, mica, Aerovox #1469(special).
> Apparently the "special" refers to the value, as C-37, -57, -67 are also
> #1469 but are 85 uuf.
> I haven't found one of these (C-97) to be bad, but have had one in
T-6, the BFO can, bad, and also 1 or 2 micas in an SP-200. The big TM11-851
tech. manual suggests removal of T-2 for replacement of any part in it.
