Well the saga continues.
I had forgotten what a pain sections of this receiver can be to work on.
However in this case I was VERY lucky as there was no need to pull the RF
deck.
I just replaced the last of the BBoD capacitors in my receiver. I pulled 4
banks of coils out of the turret and that allowed me to do a thorough
examination of the RF compartment. It was all disk caps as was the
capacitor in the compartment on the side.
The BBoD totals are.
Under the chassis, 9 capacitors.
Coil units for bands 1 & 2, 6 capacitors.
The only place NOT checked is the Xtal oscillator unit, and at this point I
think I'll continue on to the next stage, checking tubes and forming the
filter caps preparatory to checking the operation of the unit since it
hasn't yet had any power applied. Probably start that tomorrow. Once I
fire the receiver up I'll check the Voltages on the tube of the Xtal
Oscillator to make sure there isn't a leaking capacitor lurking in there.
Some interesting notes about the BBoD's. ALL were banded as .01uF
capacitors. Measured values on my digital meter varied from .012 to .049 uF
with two capacitors giving "blinking" dots instead of reading something.
That DOES NOT indicate an outright open capacitor (which would show the
residual of the test leads) but some other fault. NONE of them showed
leakage on the low Voltage of the test meter but I suspect ALL would read
leaky under rated Voltage.
Now, time for a snack and then see IF I can chase some beacons down.
