Hi Phil,
Well, I wasn't correct when I said they did them all.
Cecil said to me:
=============
" I must have gotten the exception...I picked up an SP-600 VLF
recently and was real proud that it had ceramic disc caps every where I
looked under the bottom side and in the cans. Took a peek inside the RF
deck and low an behold it's full of Black Beauties...
The ceramics are factory...way too nice a job...things don't even look
disturbed on the bottom side.
Can't figure out for the life of me why they would go to the trouble to
put
the ceramics in the thing and not do the RF deck....of course they didn't
know back then how much trouble the BBoD caps would turn out to be...Maybe
they performed better when new than the ceramics...who knows!"
=============
I would have offered the following to explain that, but maybe there's
more to it:
The -JX-17 manual does state that some rcvrs did have discs, and it's
been shown that (I think) that somewhere in the 16000 sn's that they used
them. Perhaps they had some RF decks already made up with BBOD's and used
them on the chassis that they uses discs in.
All the ones I've seen (about 4) with discs had no BBOD's anywhere.
But, it now looks like they did some mix/match jobs.
Maybe the Hammarlund Historian, who has a much better memory than I,
will jump in here. Les??
