How abt

Neither will likely attack the paint, but neither will they remove the
corrosion or prevent new corrosion. The tag needs to be first washed
in soap and water to remove the ionic contaminants (salt, most likely)
causing the corrosion. A spray of clear Krylon afterwards will help
protect it in the future.
Armorall has NO place around any of our old gear - at least if you
ever conceive it might be painted in the future. It is silicon oil
based and if you get it on a surface, it is extremely difficult to
remove. The slightest contamination of silicone oil will prevent any
paint from properly adhering to a surface. Most conventional solvents
will not remove it, and the best method for removal tends to be
corrosive. So keep it away from those panels to start with.
[Ask an automobile body shop about painting a car that has recently
been waxed with silicon wax such as Turtle Wax!]
