Hi Joe...I have a hq-110c and yes the audio is lower in the ssb position.
You may have noticed that going to the "CAL" position gives much more
output. The the manual says this is deliberate so you can get the higher
order harmonics of the crystal. The problem here is you have to put up with
the 100khz whistles from the crystal. I do all my ssb listening in the "CAL"
mode. I simply removed the crystal and put it in a safe place. My Hq-110
sits on top of my hq-180. So if I need crystal markers, I just turn on the
180. It's calibrator ouput is more than enough to make the crystal markers
appear on the 110. 73's..Mike Taylor
