I suspect the reason so few were sold is the original price of $600 in the mid
1950's.
That's roughly equivalent to $4,000 current dollars. Back then, that was a lot
of money (although less than a Collins 51J-x). According to Osterman, there are
reviews in QST for April and May of 1956. Anyone have those issues? I would like
to know more about it.
The one for sale looks in great shape. I think the price is very high but it's
priced for
its collectibility, not performance. It looks strange with no legends for the
knobs. Almost like a prototype. Actually, I like the appearance of the HQ-180
better.
BTW - this radio must be a relist. I saved the exact same pictures back in
10/91.
