Was the 145 a "rebox?"  I thought it had dual conversion
above 10 MHz which the 129, 140, 150 do not.

You must have had some bad ones.  I have a JX-26
which will stay on an SSB conversation on 20 meters for
30 minutes or more (after warmup) without retuning.  It's
even usable for 6 meter SSB.
