My vote would be for the SP-600 Super Pro, have 2 here a JX-2 & a JX-17.
They do have a higher mil-spec build quality and feel to them, and the
flywheel assisted one knob tuning is very nice. I also have SP-200VLF, a
BC-779A, and a SP-400 representing the earlier Pro models. They are great,
have a wonderful audio quality but the flywheel tuning of the SP-600 is
really nice. Finaly I  have a HQ-170 that I use along side the HX-500
transmitter, the HQ  works very well & is a very flexible receiver, & works
great also. Haven't had the opportunity to own a HQ-180.             73's
