Yes, that's a known fact. If you buy a gallon, you'll use a half a pint.
If you just have a pint, you'll need a pint and a half.
Anyway -- I forgot something important and Jack's post on the Halli list
about keeping steel wool out of the works reminded me.
Don't use steel wool to clean up the panel. Use Scotch-Brite instead.
Some of the old paint or primer may not come off with the primer, so you
might need another solvent and/or the Scotch-Brite and some elbow grease.
Steel wool is NG especially for aluminum panels. The tiny fragments have
a way of digging into the surface pits and some remains no matter what
you do to remove it -- short of aggressive abrasives. The particles are
not apparent until AFTER you apply the paint.
